Robert L. Fancher, Jr., 78, formerly of Barrington

Robert L. Fancher, Jr., 78, died Friday, July 6, 2018. Born in St. Louis, he was a longtime resident of Barrington where he owned Greenwood & Gryphon, Ltd., a print advertising and public relations company. Mr. Fancher served in the US Army, resigning his commission as Captain of the 101st Airborne Company in 1967 after 10 years of service. An avid sailor and member of the Barrington Yacht Club, he was a life member of the NRA, a member of the Norbert Buchmayr Society, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and loved the many Labrador Retrievers he raised through the years.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Janice G. Fancher; his daughter, Robin Strandberg; his son, Judson Fancher; two sisters, Jennifer Rose and Jacqueline Hagar; a brother, Richard Fancher; and five loving grandchildren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
