Barrington was all aglow Saturday night as scores of people made their way up the lawn in front of town hall to celebrate the holiday season in grand style.
“Barrington Glows,” a traditional event which seems to get bigger and better with each year, was sponsored by the Town of Barrington and Santander Bank. Those who attended were not disappointed.
Michele Geremia, director of Leisure Services for the Town of Barrington, always puts her best foot forward in her role as chairman of this event. This year was no different.
“I’ve been doing this for six years now, and I love every minute of it,” she said. “This is the most fun. It’s all about the kids. I love to see the expression on their faces.”
Before the actual throwing of the switch to illuminate town hall grounds at 5 p.m., a series of attractive events were held at the Peck Center, the library auditorium, and school committee room, including a holiday bingo luncheon, and horse and wagon rides; a magician, and a live performance with Ballet Prestige. There was also an instant photo booth, holiday arts and crafts, face-painting, raffle table, and letters to Santa Claus.
“Barrington Glows 2017” memorabilia pins were also for sale benefitting the Barrington High School prom. There were also food trucks and snacks located on the premises.
At approximately 4 p.m., Santa arrived, escorted by a Barrington fire truck, much to the delight of the many children and parents who were waiting for his appearance.
Later on, there were pre-Glow performances by Arts Alive, the Barrington Middle School a Capella Chorus, and Barrington High School Choral Ensemble. Welcoming remarks were given by Barrington Town Council President Michael Carroll.
Mr. Carroll and Santa led the customary tree-lighting countdown, and when the lights came on, a loud round of applause ensued. It was a joyous night for all.
