Suspect breaks into 16 cars early Thursday morning in Barrington

Police: Stolen items include sunglasses, cell phone, loose change

More than a dozen Barrington residents woke up Thursday morning, Aug. 3, and discovered someone had rummaged through their vehicles overnight.

Police said security camera footage shows a young man wearing a white bucket hat and a backpack going through vehicles in the area of Adams Point Road, Ferry Lane, Doane Road, Jennys Lane, and Owings Stone Road between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.

In total, 16 vehicles were hit, police said.

Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia said about five residents reported items stolen — sunglasses, an iPhone, loose change and cash, a tote bag. The chief said there were also quite a few attempted larcenies.

Police first learned about the situation at 4:53 a.m., when a Ferry Lane resident went out for an early morning walk and found items strewn across his driveway. The resident discovered the items had been taken from a neighbor’s vehicles.

Police are investigating and may have identified a suspect.
