For the third year in a row, the Defiance Hose Company came out on top of the annual competition among the town's fire companies.
Defiance won the popular Water Battle Sunday afternoon, and was named the overall winner of the Firefighters Field Day and Muster Sunday at Independence Park.
Defiance firefighters squared off 50 feet away from the Dreadnaught Hook, Ladder & Hose Company and trained their firehose on the team, pummeling the competitiors while taking little damage from the Dreads. After knocking their first challengers down, Defiance squared off in the finals against Hydraulion Engine & Hose Company, which had taken out Ever-Ready Engine & Hose Company in the first battle.
Defiance and Hydraulion pummelled each other in the championship battle, with both teams standing up to the pounding for the entire 10-minute battle, sending the decision to the judges. Defiance was deemed the most accurate with the hose, emerging as the vistor.
It wasn't the first win for Defiance Sunday, coming out in front as the overall muster winner after having fared well in several challenges Sunday morning. Rersults of the Firefighters Field Day include:
Tug of War
Dry Hose Event
Wet event
Midnight alarm
Muster best overall
