Luis Manuel Medeiros, 71, Bristol

Luis Manuel Medeiros, 71, of Roma Street, passed away on Nov. 20 at home. He was the husband of Marie Fatima (Costa) Medeiros.   

Born in Pico da Pedra, St. Michael, he was the son of Ema (Alves) Medeiros and the late Manuel Carreiro Medeiros. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his son, Luis-Jared Medeiros and his wife, Kelly; grandson Jared Medeiros; and sisters Margaret Rodrigues and Emily Ferreira.

Mr. Medeiros attended school in Portugal and worked for Bristol Auto Body for 30 years before retiring. 

His funeral services were held Nov. 23 from the George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Richard A. Narciso at St. Elizabeth’s Church. The liturgical readings were by Cindy Hoyt and Nicole Gomes. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Jessica Sousa, and the offertory gifts were presented by Luis-Jared, Kelly and Jared Medeiros. Burial followed in North Burial Ground. Serving as pallbearers were Alex Ferreira, Caleb Hoyt, Bal Mercurio, Joe Tavares, John Costa and Paul Mello.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
