Manuel Gilberto Matos, 77, of Bay View Avenue, passed away on Sept. 20. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Roderick) Matos. Born in Capelo, Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Angelica (de Souza) Matos.
In addition to his wife, Mary Jane, he is survived by his children, Phyllis Raposa and her husband David, Karen Clair and her husband Bradford, Bonnie Morency-Lima and her husband George, Amy Matos and her partner Tracy, Sara O’Connell and her husband Keith and Greg Matos-Tabashneck and his wife Stephanie. He was the grandfather of Andrew Raposa, Justine Raposa, Katherine Clair, Mary-Elizabeth Clair, Nathaniel Morency, Noah Morency, Hope Morency, Ciara Morency, Margaret Lima, Nicholas Lima, Matthew Lima and Jane O’Connell. He was the brother of Maria Lopes, Jose deMatos, Herminia Salema and Hilda Ribeiro.
Mr. Matos attended school in Portugal and was the owner of Green Farms Landscaping for 42 years.
Calling hours are Saturday, Sept. 24, 8-10 a.m. at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St.. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol.
