Billy Livingston Patton, 96, formerly of Bristol

Billy Livingston Patton, 96, died suddenly while enjoying the outdoors at home in Providence on June 24, 2017. He was the lead engineer bringing Providence’s WJAR-TV to the air in 1949, later becoming Outlet Broadcasting’s Director of Engineering.

Billy fell in love with June Orr and married in 1953. They raised their family in Bristol and retired to southwest Florida. Known for his wit, Bill enjoyed tennis, golf and cooking, and was known since the 1970s for recycling and organic gardening, always thinking of the Earth.

Bill and June enjoyed bridge, traveling with many friends, and 57 years of marriage. Born Jan 19, 1921 in Olive Hill, Kentucky, son of Stella (Livingston) and Claud Patton, and brother of W D (deceased). He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky (1943) and URI (1966). He was predeceased by his wife, June, and grandson Matthew. A loving and supportive father and grandfather, Billy is survived by children Michael, John, Karin and Kevin, their spouses and seven grandchildren.

Memorial service is on July 16, 4 p.m., at Laurelmead, 350 Blackstone Blvd, Providence. Donations to MatthewPattonFoundation.org or RIFoodBank.org.
