Bristol Police: Assaults, counterfeit bill, rabid raccoon, and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between July 31 and Aug. 5:

Monday, July 31

Officers dispersed a man “working out of a van attempting to purchase text books” on Lower Ferry Road around 1 p.m.

A large group of people was dispersed from the back field at Guiteras School just after 6 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 1

Bristol Police assisted with an accident on the Mt. Hope Bridge around 9:30 a.m. One person was brought to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

A pedestrian was escorted off the Mt. Hope Bridge at 11 a.m. Pedestrians are not allowed on the two-lane span.

A car was reportedly vandalized at Bristol Town Beach on Asylum Road around 2 p.m.

A resident on Chester Avenue complained of noise from a loud generator at a neighbor’s house around 6 p.m. There was no answer when police knocked on the door.

A woman wearing red, plaid pajamas was reportedly harassing customers at Thames Waterside Bar & Grill around 6:30 p.m. Police sent her on her way and made no arrest.

Officers dispersed a group of juveniles who were jumping off the dock at Independence Park just before 7 p.m.

Police responded to reports of a fight between a man and a woman on Sunnyside Avenue at 8:30 p.m., but found there to be no problem.

Another loud generator drew police attention, this time on Gibson Road around 11 p.m. The homeowners told officers National Grid left them without power, giving them no choice but to run the generator.

Wednesday, Aug. 2

A resident on Poppasquash Road complained of a red pickup truck parked in front of the house at 8:30 a.m. The driver was part of a construction crew working in the area.

A counterfeit $100 bill was reportedly found on the ground on Metacom Avenue.

More juveniles were sent away from Independence Park after jumping off the dock into the harbor around 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 3

Police were called to a domestic disturbance on High Street just after midnight, which turned out to be just an argument between a man and woman.

Police responded to reports of a fight on Thompson Avenue at 1 p.m. Officers filed a report but made no arrest.

Police assisted an elderly woman on Debra Drive get her dog up the home’s front steps.

Friday, Aug. 4

A possibly rabid raccoon was spotted at Bristol Town Beach just before 10 a.m. The animal was gone before animal control officers arrived.

Three juveniles were reportedly throwing rocks at women on Wood Street around 11 a.m. Police caught up with the three boys on the Town Common basketball courts, determining the reports were false.

A group of juveniles was reportedly playing on the boat ramp at Independence Park, interfering with ramp traffic, around noon. Police sent them on their way.

Two more times police sent a group of juveniles away from the Independence Park docks after they jumped off into the harbor.

Police responded to juveniles “horse playing” on the Town Common playground at 3:30 p.m.

Police responded to a neighbor dispute just before 6:30 p.m. on Sousa Street, the site of frequent such incidents.

Nearby residents complained of noise coming from a waterfront bar on Thames Street at 9 p.m., and again 20 minutes later. The bar was advised to lower the volume.

Saturday, Aug. 5

A group of juveniles playing basketball on Town Common were advised to turn down their music after a nearby resident complained of the noise at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 6

A group of juveniles was reportedly riding an ATV in the road on Scott Lane around noon. They were advised to stop.

Juveniles were reportedly jumping the fence at the town Department of Public Works facility on Mt. Hope Avenue. They were dispersed from the area.

A caller reported hearing a child crying and screaming on Claremont Avenue at 8 p.m. A 10-year-old girl suffered a toe injury and was treated on the scene.

A woman was reportedly assaulted by another woman in Colt State Park around 8 p.m. The state Department of Environmental Management is investigating.
