Bristol Police: Road rage, juvenile assault, wayward school bus

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between April 17 and April 23:

Monday, April 17

A woman was reportedly staggering in and out of the road at Metacom Avenue and State Street just before 5 p.m. The woman was gone when officers arrived.

A kayak was reportedly stolen on Wapping Drive.

A black sedan and a pickup truck were reportedly driving recklessly and hit each other at Vet’s Park on Wood Street around 7 p.m.

Tuesday, April 18

Police investigated a reported assault involving two juveniles. Officers filed a report but no arrest was made.

An officer issued a warning to two drivers who were reportedly driving their red Mazda and gray Mini recklessly on Metacom Avenue at 3 p.m.

Wednesday, April 19

A resident driving on Hope Street around 10 a.m. called police to report a reckless driver in a black Acura with Massachusetts registration was driving behind her. Police advised the caller to pull over. When she did, the woman driving the black Acura did as well, got out of the car and confronted the caller. She quickly took off northbound on Hope Street into Warren, where police in that town pulled her over. There was no arrest reported.

Police assisted with a car accident involving a child at Kickemuit Avenue and Brian Drive just before 5:30 p.m. Injuries were reported, but no one was taken to the hospital.

Thursday, April 20

Police responded to an oven fire on Bradford Street just after 2 a.m. It turned out to be a self-cleaning oven and the fire was out.

Reports of mail tampering came in from Siegel Street at 11 a.m.

A resident complained of a school bus parked on Bristol Woods Drive at 1 p.m. Th bus driver was visiting a family member on the street. The bus was moved.

A black and red truck was reportedly dumping dirt onto the road on Metacom Avenue just before 2 p.m. The truck continued into Warren.

Another school bus complaint was registered, this time on Broadcommon Road at 3 p.m. The bus was dispersed.

Police helped remove an unwanted woman from Bristol Oyster Bar on Hope Street around 10:30 p.m. Rescue personnel brought the woman to Newport Hospital.

Friday, April 21

A resident on State Street reported being assaulted by a neighbor, who then fled to an unknown location. The victim declined medical attention. Police investigated, but no arrest was reported.

A coyote was spotted on E Street at 11:30 a.m.

A resident reported a “loud bang” near power lines, possibly from a blown transformer, just before 4 p.m. There was no issue; a balloon had drifted into the power lines and popped.

Saturday, April 22

A caller reported witnessing three people “kicking unknown objects into the bushes” on Annawamscutt Drive just after midnight. Officers dispersed them.

A resident on Sowams Drive reported finding broken beer bottles in his driveway just before 8 a.m.

Police responded to noise/nuisance complaints on Sefton Road just before 11 p.m. and again at 11:30 p.m. No arrest was reported.

Sunday, April 23

Police issued court summonses for three junk and abandoned vehicles on West Street just after 10 a.m.

Two drivers engaged in a disagreement pulled into Gooding Plaza, where officers responded at 2 p.m. Their fight was verbal only.

A suspect wearing a white T-shirt, gray pants and sunglasses reportedly shoplifted from the Walgreen’s Pharmacy on Metacom Avenue at 2:30 p.m. The suspect fled in a silver Jeep. No arrest was made.

A resident on Violet Court called police on his daughter, who he said took his car without permission around 4:30 p.m. The car was returned to the father, and no arrest was reported.
