Bristol swears in new police chief Monday morning
BRISTOL — Brian Peters, a retired officer with the Portsmouth Police Department, was sworn in as Bristol's interim police chief a little after 9 a.m. on Monday morning.
Town Administrator Steven Contente administered the oath of office at the Bristol Town Hall, witnessed by Town Council President Nathan Calouro and Portsmouth Police Chief Thomas Lee.
On Friday, March 8, former Chief Josue Canario delivered a letter to Mr. Contente announcing his intent to retire in May. Until that date he will be on medical leave.
Mr. Contente’s office will begin the search for a permanent replacement, and Interim Chief Peters will begin his new role, effective immediately.
Chief Peters served as deputy police chief in Portsmouth from 2013 until his retirement at age 42 in March 2018. He had been on the force for 20 years.
