A radar trap at the base of the Mt. Hope Bridge led to the arrest of a Providence man transporting at least eight different drugs as well as drug paraphernalia.

At 1:27 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, Bristol Police Patrolman Alexander Booth was conducting radar enforcement at the Mt. Hope Bridge when he recorded a vehicle coming off the bridge into Bristol doing an estimated 57 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone. He pulled the vehicle over on Metacom Avenue near Woodlawn Avenue.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Patrolman Booth engaged in conversation with the female driver and a passenger, Chia Lu Lin. The driver was allegedly elusive as to where she and Mr. Lu Lin were traveling to and from. The patrolman said he saw cans of Whip-It cartridges in the vehicle and also detected the odor of marijuana. According to the officer’s report, Mr. Lu Lin spontaneously began shouting at him and began reaching under his seat. Backup officers arrived on scene and the driver and passenger were asked to get out of the vehicle.

During questioning, Mr. Lu Lin said he was in possession of marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms. He said those items were in a backpack inside the car. The officers found a black backpack with Whip-It containers, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana and two plastic bags containing suspected psychedelic mushrooms.

Upon further searching the vehicle, officers found a box containing a plastic bag filled with various pills and powders suspected to be various types of narcotics, such as cocaine, MDMA, Ketamine, DMT, Adderall and LSD. Everything was seized at the scene and Mr. Lu Lin was taken into custody.

At the station, Chia Yu Lin, 19, of Providence, was charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine
• Possession of Ketamine
• Possession of Psychedelic Psilocybin
• Possession of MDMA (Methlenedioxmethamphetamine)
• Possession of DMT (Dimethyltryptamine)
• Possession of Adderall
• Possession of LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide)
• Possession of marijuana, 1 ounce of less

He was processed and appeared before a bail commissioner and released from the station. The driver of the vehicle was issued traffic summonses and released from the scene.
