Donald J. Thivierge, 62, of Bristol

Mr. Donald J. Thivierge, age 62, of Ruth Avenue, Bristol, died Monday, July 9, 2018, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Janice E. (Federico) Thivierge, his wife of 36 years.

Born in Fall River, Mass., and raised in Warren, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie (St. Pierre) Thivierge. Donald was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps at the end of the Vietnam War Era. He was a graduate of Warren High School, Class of 1974.

A resident of Bristol for 29 years, he previously resided in Warren. He was employed by Mahr Inc. of Providence for 41 years. Donald was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Bristol, was an avid New England Patriots fan, and played in men’s softball leagues in Warren for a number of years. He was regular donor for many years for the R.I. Blood Center.

A very handy guy, he loved woodworking and taking on all sorts of small construction projects.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gregory J. Thivierge and Ryan J. Thiveirge, both of Bristol, and a brother, Joseph Thivierge (Robin) of Warren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Lamora and Janet Stoffel.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are Monday, July 16, 2018, at 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial with military honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Sunday, July 15, from 2 to 6 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
