Fr. Thomas J. Vaughan, 90, of Bristol

Fr. Thomas J. Vaughan SSC, 90, passed away peacefully on Sept. 13, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Manor.   =

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, he was the son the late Patrick and Kathleen (Fuller) Vaughan. He is survived his sister Loretta Gallagher as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and brother priests.

He was also the brother of the late Patrick Vaughan, Muriel Vaughan, Donna Marie Smith, Richard Vaughan, Jerome Vaughan, Mary Alice Vaughan, and Delores Gibbons 

Fr. Vaughan was a graduate of Cretin High School and then served in the U.S Army. He went on to graduate from the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn., before joining the Society of Saint Columban and was Ordained on Dec. 21, 1956. Fr. Vaughan served mainly in the Philippines but also in Belize, Chicago and St. Paul. 

His funeral services were held Sept. 15 at the Columban Fathers with a Mass of Christian Burial concelebrated by Fr. Charles Lintz, Fr. William Sullivan, Fr. Gerard Wilmsen, Fr. James Dwyer, Fr. John Buckley, Fr. Michael Donnelly, Fr. William Sweeney, Fr. Vincent Youngkamp, Fr. William Brunner, Fr. Salvatore Caputo, Fr. Dennis O’Mara, Fr. Thomas Glennon, Fr. John Wanaurny and Fr. Kevin Mullins.  Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
