Performing Arts Committee scheduled to present annual play Friday through Sunday

Students from Guiteras School will battle bullies, aliens and “Space Pirates” on stage this weekend as they present an award winning children’s play Friday through Sunday.

The Guiteras School Performing Arts Committee is scheduled to present "Space Pirates!,” an award-winning children's musical by Gwynne Watkins, Betina Hershey and Denver Casado, presented through special arrangement with Beat by Beat Press.

"Pirates! Aliens! Space Travel! Space Pirates tells the story of Gabby, a kid who gets picked on during a school trip to the museum,” the play’s description reads. “Everything quickly changes when an alien space ship accidentally beams Gabby and her classmates up to outer space. Things go from bad to worse when the alien space ship is suddenly attacked by space pirates. It’s only after this whirlwind space adventure that Gabby becomes comfortable in her own skin, and her classmates appreciate her for who she is."

Performances are scheduled to be held at the Reynolds School at 235 High St. in Bristol, on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, at 7 p.m.; and on Sunday, April 2, at noon. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Tickets will be sold at the door; advance tickets are available by contacting guiteraspto@gmail.com.

“In our sixth year, it is bringing a show to the stage thanks to the support of the school, the town of Bristol and the many hours of personal time freely given by all of our parent volunteers,” said Dana Cross, of the performing arts committee.
