BRISTOL — Huskies senior forward Sara Godfrey scored 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in leading Mt. Hope over Davies, 42-37 in a home preliminary playoff game on Friday night.

Davies looked over matched against the Huskies physical brand of basketball.

“We always fight for every rebound and every loose ball. We play hard and we really give it our all,” Godfrey said.

“We are playing our best basketball right now. Moving the ball and running our fast break, it looked really fun today,” said Head Coach Victor Kashouh.

“As a team we really stepped up this year for the playoffs. When we are working together and moving the ball, we can be unstoppable. I think that we are going to go on a run,” said Senior guard Jenna Cimbron.

The Huskies started their seniors today and it payed off. The class of 2018 have been playing together since CYO basketball in middle school and with coach Kashouh’s guidance has really blossomed the last two years.

“My seniors played amazing. Starting with Jenna Cimbron, Sara Godfrey, Grace Moclair, Annee Kopecky and Laura Marshall. I’m going to miss that group. They turned the program around. Their first year they won two league games. Their junior and senior years they won 23 league games. It’s been a huge turnaround and I’m going to miss them,” said coach Kashouh.

We’ve been playing together since CYO basketball in middle school and the last four years we have preparing for this,” said senior forward Grace Moclair.

Senior guard Annee Kopecky chimed in, “We have finally found that spark. And we’ve been working so well together, I think that we can go far.”

Junior Laura Marshall scored 12. Senior guard Jenna Cimbron scored 8. Ava Lombardo and Annee Kopecky scored 4. Isabel Savinon, Zoe Mouligne, and Thea Brum, each scored 2.

The 9-8 Huskies move on to play in Classical in the D-III quarterfinals at Classical High School on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Classical is coach Kashouh’s alma mater and he played on the 2008 Classical High School basketball team that went undefeated and won the D-II state championship.

“I’m looking forward to going back,” said the coach, adding, “Classical is the number three seed. They beat us earlier in the year. It’s going to be a really tough game.”
