Letter: Abortion industry does not deserve our tax dollars or support

Posted

Last February, I contacted my state representative, Susan Donovan, asking her to rethink her support on two bills, H-5343 and S-274, which would ensure that Planned Parenthood will stay in business in our state should Roe v. Wade be overturned. They are now under further study.

Paul Benjamin Lincoln, a national expert on state abortion law, has noted that these bills would “repeal by implication all state laws and regulations regarding abortions, such as those mandating informed consent, prohibiting partial-birth abortion and post viability abortions. These bills would also prohibit by implication any status and rules regulating abortion clinics and restricting public funding of abortion.”

These two bills are very broad in their language. Any protection for the unborn and regulation of the abortion industry in Rhode Island would be made nearly impossible. The sponsors for these bills share the “fetus counts for nothing” view by Planned Parenthood and the whole abortion industry.

Planned Parenthood is in the business of killing innocent children and is under investigation for selling their bodies off to the highest bidder. Can we live with knowing our tax dollars are supporting this organization?

Planned Parenthood’s selling of bodies is documented in a video series produced after exhaustive investigation by The Center for Medical Progress (centerformedical progress.org). The videos highlight whistleblower testimony, undercover videos and the House Select Panel and Senate Judiciary Committee investigations in Washington.

One individual, Holly O’Donnell, worked as a procurement technician for StemExpress, harvesting aborted fetal body parts inside some of the biggest Planned Parenthood facilities in northern California, before she quit in disgust over the inhuman callousness and criminality of the business. Her testimony corrobroates the findings of the Washington investigations.

A former Planned Parenthood Clinic Director (and one-time Employee of the Year), Abby Johnson, has written two books about her experiences and her personal realization that she could no longer be a part of the business of Planned Parenthood, especially after being told it was part of her job to increase the number of abortions performed at the facility. She has written two books which are well worth reading: “Unplanned” and “These Walls are Talking: Former Abortion Clinic Workers Tell Their Stories.”

There are many organizations in Rhode Island willing to help women in need who have little means of health support to get them on their feet and without killing their children. A great place to start is Mother of Life Center at motheroflife.org, or call the 24/7 hotline, 401-421-0820.
