Letter: New candidates, fresh ideas are good for Bristol

Posted

As we head into this very important midterm election, I am pleased to see so many new faces in Bristol’s political landscape who are offering fresh approaches and new ideas.

The voters of Bristol deserve options and are lucky to have so many great choices in this election. First time candidates are providing Bristol with a great opportunity to be open and embrace a diverse set of experiences and backgrounds.  When we draw from candidates that reflect our population, we elect officials who are better able to understand and meet the needs of our town.

After all, at their very best, elections are about choice. I hope you will join me on Tuesday at the polls as we select our next generation of leaders.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
