On Tuesday evening I attended the Bristol Health Equity Zone (HEZ) Building Partnerships Celebration and was inspired and proud to be part of a community with such a network of dedicated and passionate individuals and organizations.
Both Jessica Calvino and Ernie Thivierge clearly communicated the strong impact of programs and resources offered to those in need in our community. Courtney Poissant shared the fulfillment received from getting involved, and it is obvious the initiative would not be the same without her.
I was made aware of collaborations between our school district, the East Bay Center, the Community Center, Franklin Court, St. Michael’s Church, Roger Williams University, Stone Coast Church and the Bristol Police Department that no doubt would be impossible to dream up without the leadership of Emily Spence and Craig Pereira.
We should measure our community by how we prioritize education for children and provide supports services for those most vulnerable and in need of help from others. Often individual efforts can go underutilized, but as the Rev. Elizabeth Habecker from St. Michael’s Church stated, “HEZ provides an Olympic-sized pool full of networking opportunities.”
It is through these realized connections that individual efforts are leveraged and the resulting impact is multiplied. Congratulations to all who are involved. Let’s work together to make it sustainable.
