Louise C. Whalen, 86, of Bristol

Louise C. Whalen, age 86, died May 2, 2018, at Silver Creek Manor. She was the wife of the late John “Jack” Whalen, Jr. Born in Warren, R.I., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Peters) Pacheco.

She had worked as a packer for the handkerchief factory in Warren for many years. 

She is survived by her children, John J. Whalen III (Kathy) of Fall River, Mass., Lori Taylor (Steve) of Bristol, and Patricia Saunders (Michael) of Bristol; five grandchildren, Thomas Whalen, Andrea Maisano, Laura Maisano, Hollie Melen and Andrew Saunders; three great-grandchildren, Harrison, Ella and Archer. She was the sister of Laura Poissant of Warren and of the late Emily Smith, Ida Grace, Lucy Saulnier, Mary Coelho, John Pacheco, Richard Pacheco and Arthur Pacheco.

Funeral arrangements are private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
