A Bristol man faces multiple drug charges after he allegedly fell asleep in a tanning bed at a Metacom Avenue salon Thursday, Dec. 28, while in possession of a large amount of drugs.

Police got a call at 3:55 p.m. from a Venetian Tans employee, who reported that David A. Pacheco, 26, of 41 Thompson Ave., Bristol, had gone into a tanning bed at about 3 p.m. but failed to emerge after his 20-minute session was over. The employee was concerned because Mr. Pacheco refused to answer him or exit the booth when asked, and called police to check on his well-being.

Patrolman Matthew Hozempa arrived a few minutes later and was able to access the tanning booth. He found Mr. Pacheco naked and fast asleep.

“I shook the male in an attempt to wake him up and eventually he came to,” Patrolman Hozempa wrote in his report. “I then gave Pacheco his clothes and advised him to put them on.”

After dressing, Patrolman Hozempa asked Mr. Pacheco if he’d used drugs or alcohol prior to his tanning session. He told him that he had smoked marijuana and swallowed a Xanax before going in, and that he had a small marijuana “roach” in his belongings. While looking for the roach, Patrolman Hozempa also found a pill that turned out to be Adderall, and another identified later as an amphetamine/methamphetmine.

While Mr. Pacheo was being placed under arrest for the drugs, police checked his belongings and found an additional 44 Xanax tablets, 28 Alprazolam tablets and 6.54 ounces of marijuana.

Mr. Pacheco was arranged at the Warren Police Department and released on $10,000 bail, and is due back in District Court in late March. He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
