Marie Pirri, 82, Bristol

Mrs. Marie (Castigliego) Pirri, 82, of Roma Street, Bristol, passed away on July 7, 2017, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Frank A. Pirri. A lifelong resident of Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Matteo and Luigina (Murgo) Castigliego. 

Marie was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, class of 1954. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She loved spending time with her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Nicolina Kelly (John), Angelo Pirri, Matteo Pirri (Liz), Frank A. Pirri Jr. and Gina Varrichione (Lou); and grandchildren Maddie Pirri, Stephen Kelly, Michael Kelly, Jack Kelly, Jessica Varrichione, Louis Varrichione, Nicholas Varrichione, Sarah Varrichione, Krista Varrichione and Bella Pirri. Marie was the sister of the late Annie Salvaggi, Nicholas Castigliego, Lucy DelPiano, Paul Castigliego, Gaetano Castigliego, Cosmo Castigliego, Sue Salcone, Damiano Castigliego, Domenic Castigliego and Matteo Castigliego Jr.

Funeral services and burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol, by Rev. Henry P. Zinno Jr., pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, were private. Arrangements by Sansone Funeral Home.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
