Mrs. Mary A. (Castigliego) DeFusco, 98, a lifelong resident of Bristol, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017 at the Adams House, 1168 Highland Ave., Fall River, Mass., surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Carmine “Babe” DeFusco, who preceded her in death in 1995.
Born in Manfredonia, Italy, she immigrated to Bristol as a young infant, and was a daughter of the late Stefano and Nunzia (Armillotta) Castigliego. Mary was a textile worker for many years at the former Bristol Manufacturing Company, retiring in the late 1960s. She was an artist, loved working with oil paints and enjoyed sketching, taking a number of classes at Rhode Island School of Design and at Don’s Art Shop in Warren, taking part in many art competitions and shows in the area. Mary enjoyed working in her yard planting and caring for flowers and her vegetable gardens.
She is survived by three children, Shirley DeCosta and Nancy Lima, both of Somerset, Mass., and Robert DeFusco of Westerly; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas DeFusco, a brother, Nicholas Castigliego, and a sister, Nicoletta Quintal.
Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 at 9 a.m., with a graveside service at 10 a.m. in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Burial will follow. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Aug. 18, 4-7 p.m.
