Mary L. Calandra, 104, of Bristol

Mary L. (Varanese) Calandra, 104, formerly of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017. She was the wife of the late Edmond Calandra and daughter of the late Domenico and Angelina (DeMarco) Varanese. She was the loving and cherished mother of Carole Ferreira (Roger) of Riverside, June Sousa (John) of Swansea, with whom she resided, and Leslie Minkin (Len) and Edmond Calandra of Seekonk.

She was also the grandmother of Mary Lou Langlois, Roger Ferreira, Peter Ferreira, Melissa Baker, Gregory Calandra, and Kerri Calandra, great-grandmother of Molly Langlois, Amy Langlois, Andrew Ferreira, Ethan Ferreira, Alexandra Ferreira, and Alexis Baker, and great-great-grandmother of David Agnew and Joseph Agnew.

A kind, gentle person, Mary was born and raised in Fall River, and lived in Bristol following her marriage. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, and the annual Mt. Carmel Feast Committee.

She was the sister of Anne Kirkpatrick and William Varanese and the late John, Louis, Frank, Pasquale, and Antonio Varanese, Christina Conforti, and Rose Gardner.

Funeral services will be held from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol.

Burial follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. For online condolences, shared memories, information and directions, go to www.sansonefuneralhome.com
