Huskies senior clean-up hitter Stew Kay drove in six runs on three hits as the Huskies clobbered Smithfield 11-8 in a Division II home playoff game on Thursday afternoon.

The Sentinels jumped on the Huskies and scored five runs off starter London Camelo in the first inning.

The Huskies didn’t waste anytime with their comeback. Charlie Amarante and Caden Cabral both walked. Shortstop Cam Santerre singled to load the bases. Kay then launched a blast over the left fielder’s head scoring all three Huskies as he slid safely into third base.

CJ Casalino walked and stole second base. Kay took a lead on the play and was caught off the base and tagged out.

Camelo popped out for the second out. First baseman Nick Simeone smashed a sharply hit ball up the middle to score Casalino as the Huskies cut the lead to 5-4.

Kay singled in Cabral and Santerre in the second inning to give the Huskies a 6-5 lead.

The Huskies scored five more in the third inning for a 11-5 lead. Kay and Simeone each singled in runs.

Freshman pitcher Ethan Leary entered the game in the second inning and pitched five innings of three run ball before tiring in the fifth with the Huskies clinging to an 11-8 lead.

Senior ace Connor Padovich pitched the sixth and Amarante pitched the seventh to shut the door on the Sentinels.

Next up: The Huskies play at Chariho on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Division II Pod Winners Bracket.
