Mt. Hope bats explode, beat Ponaganset 8-4

BRISTOL—The Huskies exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on to beat Ponaganset 8-4 at Guiteras Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Huskies Started off with three straight hits from Charles Amarante, Cam Santerre and Caden Cabral off Ponaganset starter Mike Viveiros. Amarante scored off of Cabral’s single to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Clean up hitter Nick Simeone popped out. Then Second baseman London Camelo stepped up and clobbered a triple well over the center fielder’s head to score Santerre and Cabral for a 3-0 lead. The Huskies bats didn’t stop. Steward Kay grounded out to score Camelo. With the bases empty again, CJ Casalino singled and scored on a double by Keith Stephenson to make the score 5-0. Stephenson scored on a hit by Josh Gale to make it 6-0. The Huskies loaded the bases again, but Viveiros got Cabral to ground into a force out to end the inning without further damage.

Santerre went 4-4 and led the Mt. Hope attack.

Starting pitcher Jacob Servant struck out five and got the win. Reliever Connor Padovich struck out two.

The Huskies look to be playoff bound with a 7-3 record and tied for third place in Division II.

The Huskies play at St. Raphael Academy on Tuesday, May, 9, at 4 p.m. host Smithfield on Thursday,May 11, at Guiteras Field at 4 p.m. and host MSC on Friday May, 12, at 3:30 pm.
