PORTSMOUTH — Claire Williams scored all three Portsmouth goals in the second half and Patriots goalie Gabby Schenck made a crucial save on a penalty kick to lead PHS to a 3-2 home victory over Mt. Hope in Division I girls’ soccer Wednesday night.

Schenck’s save came with about 14 minutes left in the game with the score knotted at 2. Shortly afterward, Williams kicked in what would be the deciding game.

Schenck had seven saves in goal. Hannah Baronian assisted Williams on one of her goals.

Portsmouth, which got shut out by La Salle at home on Sept. 4, is now 1-1 in Division I.

The Patriots will play their next three games on the road against North Kingstown (Saturday, Sept. 15), South Kingstown (Tuesday, Sept. 18) and St. Mary Academy Bay View. Their next home game is against Scituate on Friday, Sept. 28.

The loss dropped Mt. Hope, which played a scoreless tie against North Kingstown on Sept. 7, to 0-1-1. The Huskies next play Prout at home on Friday, Sept. 14 and will travel to play St. Mary Academy Bay View on Monday, Sept. 17, before returning home to face Scituate on Thursday, Sept. 20. An away game has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, but the team’s opponent was not listed on the R.I. Interscholastic League website as of Friday.
