The Rev. Mark A. DeWolf, Jr., of Bristol, died Monday morning, April 9, peacefully with his family around him. He was 85.

Born in Flushing, N.Y., to the late Elizabeth Tillinghast Warren and the late Mark Anthony DeWolf, Sr., he grew up in Providence and Scituate, attended local schools and graduated from Classical High School, Providence. He attended Brown University and graduated from Ripon College in Wisconsin.

After college he served as a Winant Volunteer in the East End of London, where he received a call to ordained ministry. With the blessing of the Episcopal Bishop of R.I., he did his theological studies at Trinity College, Cambridge and Ely Theological College in England. He was ordained to the priesthood in St. Paul’s Cathedral by the Bishop of London in 1960.

He served on the staff of St. Mary of Eton Mission in Hackney Wick, London for eight years before returning to the United States. He served parishes in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Amityville, L.I. before his call to be Rector of St. Andrew’s Church, Stamford, Conn., where he served for 25 years.

After retirement from active parish ministry, he continued his work as a Hospice Chaplain in Rhode Island. He enjoyed travel, gardening, being a member of the Rotary Club in Bristol, summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard, theater and being with his grandchildren.

Reverend DeWolf is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jennifer (Macdonald) DeWolf, his son, Mark A. DeWolf, III (Renée) of Hopedale, Mass., his daughter Lisa DeWolf (Neelam Pathikonda) of View Park, Calif., and his son Paul DeWolf (Sage) of Warren, R.I. and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Bailey. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Requiem Eucharist Service in celebration of his life on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 2: p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 399 Hope St., Bristol. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
