Speak-Out: No need for more than a week of school vacation

As a full time working parent, I FULLY SUPPORT THE ONE MARCH VACATION. Our kids have a long Christmas vacation that we struggle to find day care for, there are many three-day vacations in January and February that require us to find day care for, plus we need to find daycare for all the summer weeks. It's about time working parents are finally given a little break. Now I only need to pay for one week instead of two. The majority of the population are not teachers. The majority of the population works 48 weeks a year with just four weeks of vacation. We, too, miss our kids and wish we could be off every day that they are, but that is not reality. I feel it is very selfish for teachers to be complaining about a one-week inconvenience for their family where we all have about 11 weeks of inconvenience, plus all those holidays, and all those teacher conference days.
