Active in her community, leaves large family
Rose (Russo) Capone died peacefully surrounded by her family at Elmhurst Extended Care Facility in Providence on Friday, Oct. 30. She was the wife of the late Dr. Domenic Capone. Born in Bristol on July 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Joseph Russo.
Rose was a communicate of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, where she was one of the founders of the Mother’s Club, and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, the Bristol Historical and Preservation Society and a Rotary “Anne.” Rose was a very active volunteer for many years at the Bristol Good Neighbor Soup Kitchen and Pantry.
She graduated from Colt Memorial High School Class of 1939 and served on the reunion committee. Rose was an avid walker, enjoyed cooking/baking, and feeding the birds with her grandchildren, but her most important love was her family.
Rose is survived by her five children: daughters Elizabeth (Biz) Green, Rose Evelyn (Sissy) Green and husband Paul, and Anjo Riddle and husband Ron, all of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; Donna Byrnes and husband Edd of Worcester, Mass.; and son Matthew Capone and wife Evelyn of Barrington; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Josephine Favro and Carmela Russo of Bristol.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother Jerry Russo and sisters Concetta Zundell, Mary Cala and Susan Morris. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from Sansone Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. The Rev. Michael A. Sisco was the celebrant-homilist for the Mass. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, where Father Sisco read the committal prayers.
The readings were shared by her family. Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Kimberly Green Gleason, Beth Green Heffernan, Kristen Green Duncan, Chip Green, Kyla Byrnes, Stephanie Green Owens, Meghan Byrnes Prestes, Donny Green, Matt Capone II and Tori Green. Offertory gifts were presented by her great-grandchildren.
