Pollo Campero draws lines around the block
Locals seeking some fast and delicious chicken and authentic Latin American sides may want to check out the city’s newest restaurant.
On Friday, Oct. 30, the famed Pollo Campero opened its first Rhode Island restaurant at its Rumford location on Newport Avenue. Pollo Campero is a Guatemalan-based restaurant that first opened its doors in Latin America in 1971. Chelsea, Massachusetts was where the first US restaurant opened, and over 20,000 people flocked the place on opening day. The Newport Avenue restaurant is the 51st to open in the US.
Choices of grilled or pressure-cooked fried chicken, the famous Campero beans, rice, mashed potatoes and other Latin flavors – all served on a white dinner plate – are offered at Pollo Campero. They also serve chicken bowls, and with your meal you have a choice of a roll, or some tortillas. The famous horchata drinks are available alongside the typical soft drinks. A single meal, with drink, is in the $6 range.
Pollo Campero’s is open late. Drive through only service is available from until 2 a.m. on most days.
