Westport to salute its veterans on Nov. 11

WESTPORT — Veterans and all members of the community are invited to attend Veterans Day services next Wednesday, morning Nov. 11 , at Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport.

Veterans are asked to assemble by 8:45 a.m. The service starts at 9. Ronald E. Costa, commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #118, Westport, said that the chaplain,. Navy Lt. (ret.) Emil Fuller will offer prayers and there will be a salute “honoring men and women who proudly served our country in time of need.

“Veterans Day is a day set aside to remember our veterans living, dead, missing and those kept in some forsaken place as prisoners, unknown by their comrades or families,” he said.

Flag retirement

Westport veterans will also conduct a flag retirement ceremony on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The noon ceremony will be held at the W.A.&R. Ouellette Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 843 State Road, Westport. Anyone with an old, torn or weathered American flag may bring it to the event for proper, ceremonial retirement.
