EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School boys' basketball team ended a two-game skid to start its league season as the Townies downed visiting Hope, 58-49, to collect their first Division I win of the winter.

Sophomore point guard Dion Hazard scored a game-best 18 points to pace E.P., which improved to 1-2 in the league standings. Deyshawn Tengbeh added 16 points for the Townies, who held a 34-21 lead at the break.

In total, eight Townies entered the scorebook, including Kyerstan Casey, who chipped eight points to the victory.

"This was a much-needed win," said first-year EPHS head coach Joe Andrade. "We couldn't afford to go 0-3, so we needed to get this one."

East Providence, 4-3 overall, heads to Cranston East for its next outing Friday night, Jan. 6. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
