To the editor:

Speaking from experience, I can assure your readers that a legislator’s voting record is the most important measure to use when evaluating their job performance.

Cindy Coyne’s voting record leaves a lot to be desired.

Let’s start with leaves, which Sen. Coyne voted to criminalize in 2015 if they fall in your neighbor’s yard from one of your trees. Can you imagine being fined $500 if your leaves blow into your neighbor’s yard? That is what bill S0333 did, and Sen. Coyne voted yes on it.

Sen. Coyne also voted to require that parents who intend to teach their children to drive must take a mandatory class. While Rhode Island government is actively trying to reduce onerous rules and regulations, Sen. Coyne’s yes vote on S0462 adds a ridiculous new burden on a great many parents of teens.

Leadership is also voting on your constituents behalf on each individual piece of legislation. According to a recent study, Sen. Coyne voted 100 percent with the leadership including establishing the tolls on truckers (easily amended to include cars). The voters of District 32 deserve a senator who represents their interest, not leadership’s interest.

Jimmy Kazounis is a small business owner who understands that over legislating hurts our economy. His focus is on helping to nurture our economy, not stifle it.

I urge the voters of my former district, Senate 32, to vote for Jimmy Kazounis for Senate.
