Anthony L. Memmolo, 72, East Providence

Anthony L. Memmolo, 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in East Providence. He was born in East Boston, son of the late Dante and Mary Memmolo (Laurano). 

A graduate of East Boston High School, Anthony was a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He served with the 102nd Tactical Fighter Wing at Logan Airport and on Cape Cod from 1963 to 1969. A devout Catholic, prayer with his fellow nursing home residents was the focus of his daily life during the last five years. Anthony truly lived by Mother Theresa’s words, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” 

He is survived by his twin brother, Dante Memmolo of Nashua, NH, and two sisters Margaret Shand and her husband Michael from Barrington, and Mary Jane Marcucci from Tewksbury, Mass. He was also brother to the late Michael Memmolo and his wife Patricia. Anthony had nine nieces and nephews, Michael Memmolo, Andrea Currier, David Memmolo, Mary Canelas, Annemarie Butler, Jayne Millerick, Elizabeth Swift, Benjamin Shand, and Grace Shand and many great nieces and nephews. 

A Mass of Christian Burial took place on Wednesday, March 29, in St. Luke’s Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, RI 02806. Burial will follow to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, RI 02916. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anthony’s memory may be made to NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness, by mail to NAMI P.O. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
