EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School Unified Basketball League squad never trailed en route to a 30-22 victory over visiting North Kingstown in the semifinals of the Division II championship playoffs Thursday, May 11.

The Townies won the opening tap then Ethan Medeiros, Jayden Delgado and Alex Vieira combined on the first bucket of the game. East Providence would eventually hold a 6-4 lead over the Skippers at the end of the first quarter.

The Townies took command of the game to begin the second period, using a 10-0 run to take a 16-4 lead. Ben Nascimento put the locals up by double digits (14-4) with a layup then Shane Lavin capped the spree with jumper. EPHS would take an 18-8 led to halftime.

The Townies' maintained a comfortable lead through the end of three periods. Nascimento hit a short jumper at the buzzer to leave the locals ahead by a 24-12 score.

East Providence's margin grew to a game-high 14 late in the final quarter, PJ Kochan with assists from Kyanna Burgo and Lily Johanson, accounted for the last Townie hoop to put the locals ahead 30-16 at the time.

EPHS advances to the Division II championship game Saturday morning, May 13, in Warwick at Bishop Hendricken where the Townies will face Central Falls. Tip-off is 9:30 a.m.
