EAST PROVIDENCE — Those inside the city hall chamber and those watching from afar were stunned late in the Tuesday, Dec. 12, school committee meeting when during her monthly report District Finance Director Lucy Maddock suddenly took ill.

An obviously shaken and concerned group of administrators and elected officials brought the proceedings to a halt for approximately 20 minutes while Ms. Maddock was attended to. Following a 911 call, Ms. Maddock was cared for by East Providence Fire Department personnel.

She was later taken to hospital and reported to be in stable condition by committee chairman Charlie Tsonos as of the following morning. Superintendent Kathryn Crowley added Ms. Maddock remained in hospital Wednesday undergoing tests.
