EAST PROVIDENCE — A fire late Saturday afternoon, May 26, displaced the residents living in a duplex on New Road in the Rumford section of the city.

No injuries were reported, according to East Providence Fire Department Chief Oscar Elmasian.

The chief said crews received the call just after 4 p.m. EPFD personnel found the fire engaged upon arrival. The fire appeared to start in the rear of the structure, spreading from the exterior inside and then into the attic.

Chief Elmasian said investigators remained on scene as of approximately 6:30 p.m. once the fire was quelled.
