NORTH SCITUATE — The East Providence High School boys’ cross country team completed its 2022 season last weekend vying in the Class A Championship Meet at Ponaganset High’s 3.1-mile Covered Bridge Trail.

Roger Beaudet paced the Townies, running 40th overall in a time of 18 minutes, 57.9 seconds. Tyler Robinson was next in for the locals, running 45th in 19:11.1. Jordan O’Hara led the rest of the EPHS scorers in 59th at 20:45.8. Will Anthony was 65th at 21:53.5 and Connor Cirello was 66th at 21:53.7. In addition, Jacob Francis ran 72nd in 23:58.6 and Dan Rocha 73rd in 24:29.

Beaudet, Robinson and O’Hara narrowly missed qualifying individually for the state championship meet, which returns to the Covered Bridge Trail Sunday, Nov. 6.

“The times improved all year. The team was a close knit group and we have a good nucleus is coming back next year,” said EPHS head coach Bob Lyons. “Unfortunately no one qualified for states. Looks like the trio (Beaudet, Robinson and O’Hara) missed by under a minute.”

More boys' notes

Hendricken placed its five scoring runners in the top nine and all seven in the top 11 en route to commanding win with 26 points led by overall race winner, senior Troy Silvestri who clocked a first-place time of 15 minutes, 46 seconds.

LaSalle and Cumberland shared the same amount of points, 65, but the Rams earned second because their five scorers had better individual finishes combined. LaSalle’s scorers were in places 8, 12, 14, 15 and 16. The Clippers’ scoring runners placed 3, 6, 13, 21 and 22. The Townies placed 10th out of 12 teams with 275 points.

Girls' notes

EPHS did not have enough runners to field a girls’ team, nor was any Townie healthy enough to compete in their Class A event the same day and place.

LaSalle’s Caroline Cummings won the girls’ solo title with a time of 18:22. Cumberland placed its five scorers in the top 11, led by second-place runner Kiley DeFusco (19:42), to win the team crown with 35 points. LaSalle was second with 58 and North Kingstown third with 80.

Also of note locally, St. Mary Academy-Bay View competed in the girls’ Class C Championships at Ponaganset as well, finishing 10th of 13 teams with 232 points and led by the 19th-place run of Sophia DiChiaro in 21:47.

Sophia Gorriaran of Moses Brown won the individual race in 18:28 and Westerly won the team trophy with 69 points.
