Judith 'Judy' Anderson, 77, of Barrington

Judith "Judy" Anderson, 77, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of John E. (Jack) Anderson for 56 years.

Born in Falmouth, Maine, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Primrose (Mason) Anderson.

She graduated from Barrington High School in 1957, then went on to graduate with honors from Colby Junior College in New London, NH, in 1959. Upon graduation, she began her business career with Eaton, Harwood Mutual Funds in Boston, Mass. After her marriage to Jack, she returned to Rhode Island, and together they established ANDCO (Anderson Motors). During their children’s early years, they overcame a setback when their youngest son, Jeffrey (“Cool”), suffered a brain tumor, which required the help of medical staff at RI Hospital, Mass General, and the Mayo Clinic that ultimately saved his life. In support of others fighting similar cancer illnesses, Jack and Judy set up the Jefferson Ethan Fund, Inc. for cancer research in 1985.

In their early years, Judy and Jack with their four children, enjoyed skiing at their winter home in New London, NH and boating on their boat “Pedlar”. As time passed and their family grew, they summered on Pleasant Lake in New London (named “Thistle Dew”) where she loved the natural setting, the view from her porch, and time spent with family and friends. They wintered in Juno Beach, Fla., enjoying time on the golf course and on the beach with loved ones. She was also a long-time member at Rhode Island Country Club, Barrington Yacht Club, The Squantum Association, The Hope Club, and Turtle Creek Country Club in Tequesta, Fla.

Judy loved to play golf, especially in her 18-holer group. She was an avid New England Patriots fan. Moreover, she was a fanatical supporter of her children and grandchildren, and all of their sports and activities. Most important to Judy was her husband, children, grandchildren, and other family and friends. Judy loved talking and spending time with them, making them feel special. She had a beautiful smile, a contagious laugh, and a kind heart. She lived her life guided by strong family values, love, dignity, integrity, pride and kindness. Her values will live on in her children and grandchildren until “the 12th of Never.”

Besides her husband, she is survived by her loving children: sons John E. Jr. (Marie), James E. (Karen), and Jeffrey E. Anderson all of Barrington, and her daughter Jessica M. Capone (Jeffrey) of West Hartford, Conn.; her nine grandchildren: John III, Mary Elizabeth (Zachary Tronti), Hillary, Heidi, James Jr., and Primrose Anderson, & Mason, Jules and Jacqueline Capone;  and her brother, David Anderson (NeeNee) of Scarborough, Maine. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Monday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington, Rhode Island 02806. Burial will follow at the Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road, Barrington, RI 02806. Visiting hours will be Sunday, Aug. 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Smith Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside RI 02915.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Jefferson Ethan Fund, Inc. 170 Amaral Street, East Providence RI 02915, a 501(c)3 charity, would be greatly appreciated.
