Letter: No wonder we’ve lost civility, considering our president

Kudos to Donna DeLeo Bruno and her “Witness to the demise of civility in America" letter to the editor. I wholeheartedly support her sentiments that in recent years America has seen a deterioration in civility, courtesy, kindness, gentlemanly behavior and respect for others.

After all, for over two years now, Americans have witnessed in the behavior and words of our President a man who demeans, bullies and denigrates women, minorities, Gold Star parents, war heroes, members of the press, members of the opposition party and anyone who might have the temerity to disagree with him.

He has cheated on all three of his wives, cavorts with Playboy bunnies and porn stars, and grabs women inappropriately (because he is so famous). He refers to poor countries in vulgar terms, pushes heads of state out of the way for that special photo op, belittles our allies and coddles our foes. Americans can't keep up with his stream-of-consciousness tweets or daily lies.

Why set “Saturday Night Live” as the standard by which we measure our level of civility when we have such a man in the White House? Besides, both Kavanaugh and Graham themselves were perfect examples of self-parody with their red-faced, unhinged rantings and ravings. Two middle aged white men challenged by the #metoo movement.

I too look forward to a new day filled with gentler spirits, a sense of shared humanity, softer voices and kinder hearts.

Kudos, Donna DeLeo Bruno. In the words of the ’60s generation, I’d say your letter was “Right On!”
