he lone local entry into the boys’ high school hockey playoffs, the Providence Country Day-St. Raphael-Wheeler co-op, advanced to its championship series while a city resident helped the LaSalle Academy squad do the same.

PCD earned a berth in the Division II finals following a two-game sweep of Burrillville last weekend in the semis. The third-seeded Knights defeated the second-seeded Broncos by the scores of 6-2 and 6-3. East Providence’s Ben Kaihler and Dom Reposa helped spur the PCD offense. Kaihler had four assists in the series, two in each game, and added a goal in the second contest while Reposa had two assists in game 1 and also had a goal in game 2. Fellow city resident and goalie Jeff Pimental made 36 and 25 saves, respectively, in the PCD net.

The Knights (16-4-0) face No. 1-seeded Cumberland in the best-of-three final series at Brown University’s Meehan Auditorium beginning Friday night, March 15, at 8 p.m. The top-seed Clippers, unbeaten at 20-0-0, were similar winners over Cranston West by sweep in their semi.

City native Colin Chapman assisted on Sean Helfrich’s goal at 5:40 of the second overtime period as LaSalle Academy completed a two-game sweep of Mount St. Charles with a 2-1 win in the teams’ Division I boys’ hockey semifinal series Saturday night, March 9, in Woonsocket. The game was noteworthy as well because it brought to an end the legendary career of Bill Belisle as head coach of the Mounties.

The Rams also were 2-1 winners March 8 in the game 1 of the best-of-three series. LaSalle, seeded second, advances to the championship round against No. 1-seeded Hendricken. The best-of-three series begins Friday night, March 15, at 6 p.m. at Meehan. The Hawks earned their finals berth with a two-game sweep of fifth-seeded Smithfield last weekend.
