EAST PROVIDENCE — The Riverside Little League entry emerged from the losers' bracket to defeat previously unbeaten intra-city rival Rumford twice last weekend to claim the District 2/Ron Silva 9-10 Minor Baseball Division championship.
Riverside won both games by shutouts, 4-0 to stay alive Saturday, July 28, at the Rock Complex in Rumford then 15-0 Sunday night, July 29, at its home Forbes Field.
Rumford had won three games in the lead up to the final round of the double-elimination event, including a 6-5 victory over Warren.
Riverside's first loss was to Warren, 8-5. The locals won three times in the one-and-done portion of the tourney before meeting up with Warren again, this time winning decisively, 10-1, in the losers' bracket final to set up its meeting with Rumford.
