Agnes Körner Domandi Langdon died peacefully in Santa Fe, NM, on July 23, 2018. She was 90 years old.
Agnes was born in Dessau, Germany, the eldest of five children. Her family survived the Second World War in Dessau and Dresden, and after the war escaped from Soviet East Germany to the West.
She emigrated to the US at 24, and met her first husband, Mario Domandi, with whom she had a daughter, Mary-Charlotte. She earned her Ph.D. from New York University and taught at Vassar and Bard College. With her second husband, George D. Langdon, Jr., she moved to Colgate University, where he was president and she taught in the German department. Later she worked at New York University. She retired with her husband to Little Compton.
She loved classical music and was a lifelong student. She loved spending time in conversation with her friends and family, and she found peace and solace in nature, especially in Little Compton.
She is survived by her daughter Mary-Charlotte Domandi and son-in-law Roberto Capocchi; stepsons George D. Langdon III and Campbell B. Langdon; their wives Marta Rivas and Samantha Chen; step-grandchildren Jamie, Rory, Bryce, and Campbell Langdon, and Langdon Rivas; and her siblings Wilhelm Körner and Charlotte Wittkowski Körner.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, September 2, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's-by-the-Sea on the Little Compton Commons. All are welcome.
