Allens Pond offers osprey experience

Mass Audubon's Allens Pond Wildlife sanctuary invites the public to an immersive field school experience at our sanctuary. This all-day session focuses on the vibrant population of migratory osprey, and factors that influence their success. Participants will get get up-close and personal with some of the nesting platforms and be able to check for nest activity and chicks. 

There will be opportunities to get close to the birds and investigate the shabitats osprey rely on, the challenge of salt marsh decline and how the SouthCoast Osprey Project's monitoring, banding and other tracking technologies reveals migratory patterns, successes and potential threats to the species.
The day begins at the Allens Pond Field Station and will lead us through trails along the marsh with live nest investigation. Later, enjoy lunch at Stone Barn Farm during a presentation on the natural history of the species, followed by break-out sessions and Terrain can be uneven in areas and one must be prepared to walk approximately two miles over the course of the day. The program will run rain or shine.
