Rhode Island Center for the Book recently selected Barrington author Jamie Michalak's "Joe and Sparky Go to School" as the Rhode Island submission for the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Barrington author's book headed to national festival

Rhode Island Center for the Book recently selected Barrington author Jamie Michalak's "Joe and Sparky Go to School" as the Rhode Island submission for the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Rhode Island authors who have had their books honored over the past few years include Ann Hood, Natalie Babbitt, Chris VanAllsburg, Kelly Easton, Janet Taylor Lisle, Kim Newton Fusco and Mark Peter Hughes.

Last year the estimated attendance at the Festival was more than 10,000. The Rhode Island Center for the Book celebrates the art and heritage of reading, writing, making, and sharing books. Through a variety of programs and activities, the Center promotes a love for books among people of all ages and backgrounds across Rhode Island.
