PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School cross-country program had a very good day at Glen Park on Monday.
Both the girls’ and boys’ teams swept the competition, with individual runners posting most of the fastest times over the 3.1-mile course.
Girls’ results
Here’s how the girls did as a team (in cross-country, low scores are better):
• 16 points to Moses Brown’s 47
• 20 points to Wheeler’s 25
• 15 points to St. Patrick’s 50 (forfeit, not enough scoring athletes)
• 19 points to Bay View’s 36
• 16 points to Lincoln School’s 45
The lady Patriots also posted the four fastest individual times:
• Elizabeth Sullivan: 18:36
• Nikki Merrill: 20:16
• Olive Allen: 20:18
• Maura Driscoll: 20:46
Boys’ results
Here’s how the boys did as a team:
• 15 points to Moses Brown’s 49
• 23 points to Wheeler’s 32
• 15 points to St. Patrick’s 50 (forfeit, not enough scoring athletes)
The top runners for the boys’ team were:
• Ben Chase (second place): 17:37
• Noah Gramit (third): 17:42
• Ezra Leary (fifth): 18:25
• Ethan Shea (sixth): 18:27
• Vincent Gardener (seventh): 18:41
Ben Chase is only a sophomore and is finally recovering from a shin injury that started in April, said boys’ coach Shaun Horgan.
Both teams will next compete at Colt State Park in Bristol on Monday, Sept. 25, against Mt. Hope, St. Raphael Academy and Tiverton.
