Christian Finne died on November 6, 2017, at the age of 98 in Granite Bay, California, in the care of his daughter, Grace Kamphefner. He is also survived by his sons Nils and Diderik, of Seattle, Wash., and Alexandria, Va., respectively. Christian had five grandchildren. His entire family misses him terribly.
Christian was born in Oslo, Norway on May 10, 1919. After spending his youth in Oslo, Christian attended the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, where he received his degree in electrical engineering at the height of World War II.
He met his future wife, Grace Werring during the summer of 1950; they were married at the Norwegian Seaman’s Church in Brooklyn, NY, in January of 1951. The couple settled in northern Virginia, spending alternate summers in Norway and Little Compton until they purchased their home on Sakonnet Point in 1977. They were married 63 years.
Christian worked for many years in international development for the World Bank in Washington, DC, specializing in hydroelectric energy. Christian lived an active life and was fond of tennis, golf, skiing, and sailing. He and Grace could often be seen taking a morning swim on Lloyd’s Beach before breakfast. He spent more than 35 years at his cherished house on Sakonnet Point.
A memorial service and celebration of Christian’s life will be held in Little Compton on Friday, July 6, 2018, at St. Andrews by the Sea.
