David Ferreira, 90, Westport

David Ferreira, 90, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 11, 2017, with his family by his side. He was the husband of Mary F. (Paschall) Ferreira with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.

Mr. Ferreira was born in Fall River, son of the late Antone and Gertrude (Rogers) Ferreira, and had resided in Westport since 1959. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a mechanical engineer for Chamberlain Manufacturing, New Bedford. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. 

He was Past  Master of the Massasoit-Narragansett Lodge in Fall River, receiving a 50 year pin for his five decades of service. Mr. Ferreira was a lifetime member of the New Bedford Rod and Gun Club and owner of Peaceful Acres, Westport. He loved his orchard and garden and spending time with his family.

Survivors, along with his wife, include his three sons, Dana L. Ferreira of Westport, Randy S. Ferreira and his wife Paula of Whitinsville, Mass., and Jeffrey P. Ferreira of Westport; his daughter, Leslie Belovitch of Westport; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late David S. Ferreira and brother of the late Edward and Daniel Ferreira, Genevive Germain and Ruth Oliveira.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
