June Goulart, 93, Little Compton

Posted

June Goulart, 93, of Little Compton, died peacefully in the arms of her family on August 27, 2017. Born Juanita June Caseday, she was the daughter of Harriet Dugger Caseday, and the stepdaughter of Charles Caseday and Bertram Chapman.

In 1941, June married John Goulart, her devoted husband for 72 years. She became a committed, caring parent to their seven children and was a much loved matriarch to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She delighted in being a part of their lives.

June spent her childhood in Oregon and California, and never lost her love for its mountains and valleys. Although the family home remained in Little Compton, she and John enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, and would often regale their family with slide shows of their adventures. Some of her children teased her that she had more slides of Crater Lake than National Geographic!

June had many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress with an eye for fashion and a love of anything polka dot. She was also a skilled writer who crafted humorous poems and stories for and about her family. She had a lovely singing voice, too, and would entertain her children, singing song lyrics she would hilariously alter. She had a vast repertoire of tunes, which she sang, whistled, or played on the ukulele. She loved to dance with her husband, too - simple pleasures that all involved music.

June was a convert to Catholicism, and she lived her life guided by the Faith that she treasured. She had a great devotion to Mary and prayed the Rosary daily, keeping promises of prayer for those who asked, and imploring God’s blessings for those she loved. She considered her faith as something precious and she tried to live and share the message of the Gospel. Her singular purpose in life was to leave a legacy of deep and rich faith to her children.

June is preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter, Theresa; sons, Joseph and Jude; son-in-law, Frank Rosa; infant grandchildren, Juanita and Ruth; infant great grandchildren, Justin and Erica; a brother, Lee Smith; sisters, Julia Van Keuren, Betty Saade and Goreta Hoffman; and beloved niece and nephew, Louise Eicholz and Robert Hoffman.

She is survived by her son, John (Bernadette) Goulart of Horn Lake, Mississippi; daughters, Judy Rosa, Kathy (Gary) Brennan, Juanita Goulart, and Jennifer (Gary) Snyder, all of Little Compton; her daughter, Karen Marks and partner Robin Perry of Glendale, RI; daughter-in-law, Linda Goulart of Oregon; former daughter-in-law, Renee Geary of Providence; former sons-in law, Andrew Marks and Coll Walker, both of Little Compton, as well as 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church followed by burial in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, August 31, from 5-7 p.m. at Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Avenue, Little Compton.
