To the editor:
FirstWorks would like to pay tribute to John Carter (Providence and Little Compton), who was a wonderful supporter of the arts in Rhode Island. John, along with his wife Letitia, helped FirstWorks to launch our Artistic Icons Series at The Vets after the stunning 2015 restoration of this historic theatre in downtown Providence.
Through significant support from The Carter Family Trust, FirstWorks developed the Artistic Icons Series to bring world-class, marquee artists to Rhode Island for world, national and regional premieres, helping to cement Providence as a place of world-class culture and performing arts.
The reach of John's support extends to thousands of our Arts Learning students, who have enjoyed meaningful encounters with artistic Icons during special student matinees, master classes and workshops.
We offer our sincerest condolences to the Carter Family. Through his tireless dedication and support reaching so many lives, John made Providence a better place.
In honor of his memory,
The FirstWorks Staff and Board
Providence
